Inspired by our founder’s deep love of Italian wines, this club-exclusive bottling is a true Napa original. Made from 100% Nebbiolo—the only planting of its kind in Rutherford—this wine is as rare as it is expressive.

Grown on a small block where the varietal thrives in our estate’s well-drained soils, the fruit yields a wine of striking aromatics, firm structure, and graceful aging potential. Production is extremely limited, averaging just 150 cases per vintage, making each bottle a collector’s piece and a heartfelt tribute to Bob’s passion for Italy’s noble grape.
 
The Proprietary family of wines are comprised of unique blends and varietals sourced entirely from our Rutherford Estate. Crafted with balance and a dedication to expressing our terroir, these wines represent an annual “homage” to the vintage and are made exclusively for members and guests of Round Pond Estate and not available elsewhere.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant garnet in color, this Nebbiolo opens with lifted aromatics of wild strawberry, tart cherry, and dried rose, layered with hints of blood orange and subtle spice. The palate is vibrant and precise, offering flavors of red currant, cranberry, and a touch of anise carried by hallmark Nebbiolo acidity. Fine, structured tannins frame the wine beautifully, leading to a long, savory finish with lingering red fruit and mineral nuance.

Vineyard Notes

The 2022 vintage was the third in a string of drought years. Despite the drought, there was well-timed Spring rain that boosted the vines’ vigor allowing for nicely established canopies for both shade and photosynthesis. The weather remained relatively mild and even, with routine fog patterns cooling nighttime and morning temperatures. At Labor Day, a significant heat wave impacted the entire Western States. Round Pond’s “California sprawl” trellis systems provide excellent vine balance and diverse sun exposures.
