This newest wine from our Estate highlights Merlot as a single varietal rather than a part of a blend. Sourced from two blocks on our estate, it is planted in a classic sprawl trellis system allowing nice, dappled light for even ripening. This limited edition wine is only produced in certain years when the winemaker feels it best highlights the unique profile of Merlot. 

Tasting Notes

Our Proprietary Merlot leaps from the glass with aromas of blackberry, current, fig, and graphite. Smooth and rich, this wine offers flavors of black cherry and red plum with a touch vanilla and cocoa powder on the mid-palate and notes of light baking spice. With velvety tannins and balanced acidity, this Merlot offers a long, satisfying finish and is ready to be enjoyed now, but will also continue age beautifully over time.

Vineyard Notes

The 2019 rainy season was punctuated by a fairly large rain event in May which allowed vines to grow and develop with low to no irrigation. The growing season was long and, towards the end, very mild. We were allowed to pick when the fruit was ready without having our hands forced by extreme heat or rain. We are extremely pleased with the quality and character of the resulting 2019 wines with bright, tropical white varieties and red varieties demonstrating richly saturated red fruit notes such as ripe raspberry and dark cherry with soft supple tannins.
