The Growers Series wines represent a collection of exceptional varietals found outside of our Rutherford estate. These wines are crafted with the same detail and attention as our estate wines while offering us the opportunity to showcase the vineyards and terroir of our fellow grower’s throughout Napa and Sonoma.

Montepulciano is an Italian red wine grape known as a go-to food wine, and with just 82 acres planted in California, it is a fun new additon to our Growers Series collection!

Tasting Notes

Made in a Bordeaux style, our Montepulciano offers fresh, earthy notes mingled with red fruit and plum aromas. Delicious, intense fruit flavors of strawberry, blackberry, and rhubarb are balanced with hints of black pepper spice, anise, and a hint of thyme. While the wine is more acid driven, balanced, soft tannins make this easy approachable in its youth and ideal paired with dishes like pasta, pizza, or hearty cheese.

Vineyard Notes

The 2022 vintage was the third in a string of drought years. Despite the drought, there was well-timed Spring rain that boosted the vines’ vigor allowing for nicely established canopies for both shade and photosynthesis. The weather remained relatively mild and even, with routine fog patterns cooling nighttime and morning temperatures. At Labor Day, a significant heat wave impacted the entire Western States. At Round Pond, we sustained some heat damage but mostly came out unscathed thanks to our healthy vine canopies and overhead sprinklers. Round Pond’s “California sprawl” trellis systems provide excellent vine balance and diverse sun exposures.
