2023 Honouren Cabernet Sauvignon

“…the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Honouren is clearly an outstanding wine that supports some great causes. It reveals a terrific perfume of black fruits, chocolate, scorched earth, and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, it has a layered, nicely structured mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a great finish.”

In tribute to our founder and those impacted in our Round Pond community, we created a special commemorative wine showcasing photos of those living with, or lost to, Alzheimer’s as our way of bringing together the community and raising vital funds for the fight. We donate 50% of the proceeds to organizations dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer’s.

From our sustainably-farmed Estate and award-winning winemakers Thomas Rivers Brown & Jeff Plant, this classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is bold and rich, full of deep, dark flavors and phenomenal structure.

If someone close to you has been affected by Alzheimer’s disease, we would love for you to share your story and be included on the front label of the next vintage of Honouren.

"The 2023 Honouren is superb. Pliant and juicy, with gorgeous complexity, the 2023 has so much to offer. Floral top notes give the Honouren striking aromatic presence that works so well here. Soft contours wrap around a core of red cherry fruit, blood orange, menthol and cinnamon on the close." - 93 points, Vionous, Antonio Galloni

Tasting Notes

The 2023 Honouren Cabernet Sauvignon opens with expressive aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and violet, layered with subtle hints of cedar and warm spice. On the palate, this wine is opulent yet poised—showcasing lush flavors of blackberry, currant, and cocoa nib framed by fine-grained tannins. Notes of espresso and graphite emerge toward the finish, adding depth and complexity. Structured and beautifully balanced, it promises elegance in its youth and longevity in the cellar.

Vineyard Notes

The 2023 vintage marked the end of our three-year drought, bringing nearly 30” of rainfall that contributed to the revitalization of our soil profiles and fostering robust canopy growth. The vintage was one of the mildest in the last 10 years which provided a long hangtime, allowing full flavor development leading to very expressive flavors and aromas. As soon as the fruit set after flowering, extensive hand work began in the vineyard opening the canopy to allow for full sun exposure on the fruit. This leads to full, concentrated flavor and ensures the fruit is as expressive as possible. The 2023 vintage will be one for the ages and we feel these wines truly capture the exceptional year.

Winemaker Notes

The 2023 Honouren captures everything we loved about this standout vintage. It’s overflowing with big aromatics, floral notes, and deep, dark fruit that jump right out of the glass along with a savoriness typically seen in reserve-tier wines. It was one of our favorite wines bottled this year. Crafted from our late founder Bob MacDonnell’s favorite block near Conn Creek, this wine showcases the remarkable terroir of its gravelly, well-drained soils — a distinctive corner of our vineyard that continues to deliver exceptional fruit.
