Accolades

"The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Eric Bovet is gorgeous. Aromatic, vibrant and juicy, the 2023 is stellar. Crushed flowers, mint, red cherry, plum and blood orange take shape in the glass. Readers will find a wine of total refinement and class. Then again, all of this fruit it from M-Bar Ranch, one of the most pedigreed sites in Oakville. Best of all, the 2023 can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring." - 93 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"All from the M-Bar Vineyard in Oakville and cut from the same cloth as the Secret Garden release, the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Eric Bovet offers cassis, violets, chocolate, and crushed stone-like minerality. Medium to full-bodied, it has a nicely balanced, focused mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length." - 93 points, Jeb Dunnuck

Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of mixed berries, orange marmalade, and herbs de Provence waft enticingly from the glass. Rich flavors of blackberry, olallieberry, plum, and black currant are met with notes of cocoa nib and caramel with a touch of baking spice upon the finish. Velvety tannins and fresh acidity lead to a juicy, long finish that will continue to age gracefully.

Vineyard Notes

The 2023 vintage marked the end of our three-year drought, bringing nearly 30” of rainfall that contributed to the revitalization of our soil profiles and fostering robust canopy growth. The vintage was one of the mildest in the last 10 years which provided a long hangtime, allowing full flavor development leading to very expressive flavors and aromas. As soon as the fruit set after flowering, extensive hand work began in the vineyard opening the canopy to allow for full sun exposure on the fruit. This leads to full, concentrated flavor and ensures the fruit is as expressive as possible. The 2023 vintage will be one for the ages and we feel these wines truly capture the exceptional year.

Winemaker Notes

The soil of our Oakville site lies on a gravelly base overlaid with alluvial soils washed down from the Mayacamas mountain range. The soil provides excellent water drainage, while a subtle slope allows excess water to flow into the Napa River; a perfect combination for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. Fog lingers later in the morning and arrives earlier in the evening, leading to slightly cooler days and nights, producing wines with an elegant flavor profile and structure. Sourced from the younger vines at MBar Ranch that feature three different clones, 15, 685 and the most notable Clone 6, this vineyard designate wine showcases the excellent balance of the Cabernet Sauvignon varietal with the unique microclimate, soil, and terroir of MBar Ranch.
