Tasting Notes

This charming wine explodes with ripe red strawberry and cherry aromatics and a hint of rose petal. Bright notes of raspberry and Bing cherry are beautifully balanced with deeper notes of blackberry, vanilla and Bergamot. The depth of character from the Cabernet Sauvignon is complemented by the juicy fruit from the Sangiovese leading to a beautifully textured wine. Well-integrated oak notes and mouthwatering acidity make this wine balanced, beautiful, and ready to enjoy. 55% Sangiovese, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon

Vineyard Notes

The 2022 vintage was the third in a string of drought years. Despite the drought, there was well-timed Spring rain that boosted the vines’ vigor allowing for nicely established canopies for both shade and photosynthesis. The weather remained relatively mild and even, with routine fog patterns cooling nighttime and morning temperatures. At Labor Day, a significant heat wave impacted the entire Western States. At Round Pond, we sustained some heat damage but mostly came out unscathed thanks to our healthy vine canopies and overhead sprinklers. Round Pond’s “California sprawl” trellis systems provide excellent vine balance and diverse sun exposures.

Winemaker Notes

Italian elegance meets California richness in this Sangiovese and Cabernet blend. The deeper, darker profile and finer grain tannins of the Cabernet from our Rutherford site help to refine the bright acidity and rustic tannins found in the Sangiovese planted to the western edge of our vineyard.
