Inspired by our founder’s deep love of Italian wines, this club-exclusive bottling is a true Napa original. Made from 100% Nebbiolo—the only planting of its kind in Rutherford—this wine is as rare as it is expressive.
Brilliant garnet in color, this Nebbiolo opens with lifted aromatics of wild strawberry, tart cherry, and dried rose, layered with hints of blood orange and subtle spice. The palate is vibrant and precise, offering flavors of red currant, cranberry, and a touch of anise carried by hallmark Nebbiolo acidity. Fine, structured tannins frame the wine beautifully, leading to a long, savory finish with lingering red fruit and mineral nuance.
The 2022 vintage was the third in a string of drought years. Despite the drought, there was well-timed Spring rain that boosted the vines’ vigor allowing for nicely established canopies for both shade and photosynthesis. The weather remained relatively mild and even, with routine fog patterns cooling nighttime and morning temperatures. At Labor Day, a significant heat wave impacted the entire Western States. Round Pond’s “California sprawl” trellis systems provide excellent vine balance and diverse sun exposures.
This traditional Bolognese recipe comes from our good friend, Joan Stagnaro. She says that just the smell of it simmering in the kitchen all day makes her think of cold weather & sweaters. Paired with our Growers Series Graciano or Proprietary Nebbiolo, this is la ottimo cena (the best dinner)!
