2019 Proprietary Petite Sirah
Member Price: $70 – $84
Savory tones of thyme, sweet strawberry, and a hint of allspice are present on the nose. A graceful entry of gypsy plum and young blackberries builds to a lovely mid-palate of dusty cocoa. Lively acidity and youthful tannins drive the earthy finish with notes of smoke, dried lavender, spice, and blueberries.
Tasting Notes
Enticing aromas of sweet strawberry and cranberry are balanced with a hint of thyme and subtle spice. Sumptuous flavors of crushed blackberry and cherry plums are met with a mid-palate note of cocoa and classic Rutherford dust. An earthy finish with notes of dried spice and dark fruit with bright acidity and youthful tannins.
Vineyard Notes
The 2019 rainy season was punctuated by a fairly large rain event in May which allowed vines to grow and develop with low to no irrigation. The growing season was long and, towards the end, very mild. We were allowed to pick when the fruit was ready without having our hands forced by extreme heat or rain. We are extremely pleased with the quality and character of the resulting 2019 wines with bright, tropical white varieties and red varieties demonstrating richly saturated red fruit notes such as ripe raspberry and dark cherry with soft supple tannins.
Winemaker Notes
Only in those vintages perfectly suited to Petit Sirah will we bottle this elusive, tantalizing varietal. When making wine from this delicate fruit, we will use tall, thin tanks to decrease skin to juice contact and limit the time in tank to 4 - 6 days to enhance its voluputousness. It’s necessary to use the utmost finesse and discretion when working with this varietal, but the resulting wine is supremely elegant and shows beautiful blue fruit - making all the effort worthwhile.
