2018 Proprietary Nebbiolo

The mother grape to such revered wines as Barolo and Barbaresco, Nebbiolo finds its own Californian personality here in the vineyards of Round Pond. Filled with flavors of cherry, spice, caramel, and dried fruit, this varietal was Patriarch Bob MacDonnell’s favorite varietal, and the main reason we grow this very unique grape.

Tasting Notes

The nose reveals savory spices and anise before opening up into a fruitier aromatics of ripe strawberries and dried orange peel. The firm tannins take hold and yield a medium weight and long finish. The classic Nebbiolo acidity makes this an incredible wine for pairing with a variety of your favorite foods. 100% Nebbiolo | Aging: 30 months.

Vineyard Notes

The 2018 vintage had a near-perfect growing season that began in late February. Spring was mild, with extended flowering yielding uniform grape clusters. Steady, warm temperatures made for a cool, unhurried harvest, and our healthy leaf canopies, allowed the fruit to hang longer and ripen very slowly on the vine. Harvest began with our Sauvignon Blanc in late August and wrapped the first week of November with our Cabernet Sauvignon. The extended time on the vine and the temperate weather gave a fantastic concentration of ripe flavor and density to the grapes along with high acidity in the wines, resulting in a vintage with natural balance and finesse.
