2017 Proprietary Petit Verdot

Member pricing: $63-$74

A classic Bordeaux and Medoc region varietal, Petit Verdot grows very well on our Rutherford estate. We reserve the most unique and promising of our small Petit Verdot lots for select single-varietal bottlings that give this alluring varietal its due.

Tasting Notes

This wine displays intriguing aromas of dark fruit, plum and lilac. Bold yet velvety, the palate is full of red raspberry and bright cranberry. Enticing minerality and hints of spice complement this wine’s exquisitely ethereal texture, which lingers delightfully on the long finish. Though drinking beautifully now, this wine has the potential to age for up to a decade.

Vineyard Notes

The 2017 season started with a memorable amount of rainfall, which was a refreshing change after five years of drought conditions. Summer brought numerous 100+ degree heat spikes, which made our daily checks on sugar, flavors and acids helpful in ensuring an earlier harvest than past vintages. The weather during the mid-harvest season cooled a bit and included some late foggy mornings. These cooler mornings allowed for a longer growing season for our later-ripening red varietals, giving them more time on the vine. This additional hang time markedly slowed sugar accumulation and ripening, ultimately producing deep, alluring, finesse-driven wines.
