From our sister brand, Kith & Kin, this Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from all corners of the Napa Valley, but with its heart rooted in Rutherford. In 1992, the MacDonnell family made its first barrel of wine using a handpicked selection of Cabernet from their Napa Valley Vineyards. Produced for family and friends, this homemade bottling sparked the MacDonnell family’s passion for making wines and became the inspiration for today’s Round Pond Estate.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant aromatics of ripe cherry, black plum, cedar, and fine leather all leap from the glass. The supple and seductive entry is ripe with blackberry jam and soft mocha tones, leading this balanced wine through the mid-palate with notes of vanilla, violet florals, and a touch of white pepper. The finish is smooth with approachable velvety tannins that softly linger and make this wine the consummate crowd pleaser.

Vineyard Notes

The season began with a memorable amount of rainfall, which was a refreshing change after five years of drought conditions, but also included more triple-digit heat waves in the summer months. The weather during the mid-harvest season cooled a bit and included some late foggy mornings. These cooler mornings allowed for a longer growing season for later-ripening varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, giving them longer on the vine. This additional hang time markedly slowed sugar accumulation and ripening, ultimately producing deep, alluring, finesse-driven wines.
