Starting with moderate spring weather and plentiful rainfall, the 2005 growing season featured a temperate summer with very few heat spikes. As a result, we were able to wait as the grapes slowly achieved ideal maturity, developing beautiful varietal flavors, with good body and structure.

Hand-harvested in the cool early morning, Round Pond’s estate fruit was then hand-sorted in the vineyard before a second hand-sorting at the winery. Individual lots from specific vineyard blocks were fermented and aged separately to allow the broadest range of flavors at blending, while state-of-the-art insulated fermenters ensured consistent temperatures. All lots received extended maceration on the skins with pumpovers three times daily for full color and flavor extraction. The wine was aged 20 months in 90 percent new French oak prior to receiving extended aging time in the bottle.
